When Becky Swain returned from the ‘dead’ back in September, Lisa and Betsy’s lives were truly shaken to the core. Since the reveal that her death four years ago was fake, she has used her old ways of manipulating her ex-wife and daughter, and pulled their new family to pieces. Whatever happens next needs to feel like it actually means something, and there are three realistic ways I see her story ending, with each one having very different consequences.
Becky dies for real this time
This would obviously be the darkest outcome, but also the most final.
If Becky really dies, Lisa and Betsy would be forced to to grieve her all over again, but this time it would be a little different. Presuming the characters find out who she really is, there would be no unanswered questions, and Lisa would not have to live with the guilt of losing her wife after an argument like she did four years ago.
For Lisa, the key difference in this scenario would be her support network. Carla being by her side would mean Lisa would not be facing this loss alone, and she would be held together by someone who understands her and puts her first.
For Betsy, it would be heartbreaking of course, but also bring her closure. She would finally be grieving the mother Becky actually was, not the version she always believed she was. Yes, of course this would be painful, realising that your parent was never the person you thought she was, but Betsy would have Carla and Ryan to lean on for support, a family unit she lacked four years ago.
This ending gives complete closure. It hurts, but it allows Lisa and Betsy to move on knowing Becky is truly gone.

Becky disappears again
This would be the least satisfying ending for me, even if it does keep future storyline options open.
If Becky disappeared again, it would leave Lisa and Betsy in an emotional limbo worse than they were in before. There would be no accountability, no consequences, no idea of where she is, and no real ending to the story.
For Lisa, this is especially damaging. She would never get answers, never get closure, and never truly escape Becky’s shadow, which would hinder her ability to move on with Carla once again. Becky would continue to control parts of her life simply by being absent.
For Betsy, it would reinforce the idea that her mother can cause pain and then walk away without facing it. That is not growth, it is repetition, and leans into the manipulation, and the immaturity, that we’ve seen from Becky so far.
While this option would allow Becky to return again someday, it would come at the cost of Lisa and Betsy’s emotional progress. They cannot fully move forward if Becky is always out there somewhere.

Becky goes to prison
This is the most balanced and realistic outcome, in my view.
Becky going to prison would mean she finally faces consequences for faking her death, and any other crimes she may commit over Christmas and New Year (as we know her villainous ways are going to escalate over the holiday season). She would be alive and well, but no longer able to cause chaos in Lisa and Betsy’s lives.
For Lisa, this would bring clarity around who her wife really was, and an overwhelming sense of relief. Becky would stop being this powerful, disruptive figure and become someone who has to finally live with the bad choices she made over the years. That would allow Lisa to step away without guilt and focus on her own future.
For Betsy, prison would give certainty, and closure. Her mother is alive, but safely removed from her life. Betsy could decide not to have contact with Becky, and that decision would send a powerful message to Becky that she can no longer manipulate her own daughter. But what if Betsy did decide to have contact with her again? Maybe not immediately, but further down the line. That could create some drama and reopen old wounds in the future.
From a storytelling point of view, Becky could still appear occasionally (prison visits, phone calls, or mentions) without being part of everyday life on the street (unless she staged an escape like Rob Donovan, of course).
But which ending works best?
Each way this story could end would send a different message:
- Death brings painful but complete closure on the past.
- Disappearance avoids responsibility and leaves even more damage behind.
- Prison delivers consequences for Becky’s actions, while allowing Lisa and Betsy to move on.
The strongest ending is the one that puts Lisa and Betsy first. Becky does not need another dramatic escape or mystery. She needs to face what she has done, so the people she hurt can finally live without being pulled back into her chaos.
