I’ve watched every single Swarla scene, and these are the wedding foreshadowing points I spotted.
Whether they’re all intentional or not, it’s clear that a Swarla wedding has been teased by Coronation Street multiple times, and not just in the show!
Firstly, what is foreshadowing? Well, it’s a way of an author hinting at what is coming further down the line in a story. In television and movies, it could mean obvious comments about a plot point, or much more subtle background hints that a storyline or character is heading in a certain direction.
The wedding foreshadowing with Swarla became obvious during Carla’s stint in hospital with Sepsis, but I’ve since gone all the way back to the start of their scenes together in October 2023, and have compiled this list of subtle (okay, some not so subtle) hints that a relationship between the two of them was on the cards, and a future wedding. Which, by the way, I’m calling New Year’s Eve 2025 as their day.

11th October 2023
Lisa arrives on the cobbles to speak to Carla as Peter drives off to go after Steven Reid. Symbolising Peter leaving her life and Lisa coming into it.
28th May 2024
Lisa’s police pass is wrapped around Carla’s ring finger.
16th August 2024
When Lisa takes Joel into the interview room at the police station, there’s a noticeable focus on her changing the sign on the door to ‘Engaged’. This seems to be done on purpose, as she could have easily switched the sign on the door on her way in, not as she was closing it.
22nd November 2024
After Carla and Lisa slept together for the first time, Coronation Street socials literally spelled it out for us.
Also, in this episode, Carla makes a point of looking at her wedding ring as Lisa gets up off the couch.
23rd December 2024
When Carla announces their relationship to the factory, she’s holding a folder of material titled ‘McBride’
31st December 2024
During the New Years Eve scene in The Rovers, Mary throws confetti over Lisa and Carla. There’s also a twinkly sound in the background which no other character/couple had throughout the episode.
Back at the flat that same night, Carla refers to Lisa as ‘Mrs’ and implies there’s something happening next New Year’s Eve when she says, ‘If you leave me hanging next New Year’s Eve and I’m out of here…’
8th January 2025
While visiting Carla in hospital, Bobby is sat reading a magazine with an advert for wedding rings on the back cover, and ‘What’s to come in 2025’ on the front. The camera purposely focuses on the magazine before panning up and back to reveal the scene, leading me to one conclusion. 2025 wedding.
Monday 20th January 2025
When Carla gets home from hospital, it’s as if a point is made to show she hasn’t put her wedding ring back on. Her hand is featured when she sits on the couch, and her other hand (which shows her other rings back on) is featured when Lisa cuddles her.
Tuesday 25th March 2025
When Rob holds Carla hostage, he refers to himself as Lisa’s ‘brother-in-law’.
My prediction
Based on the wording of the magazine Bobby was reading, and Carla’s comment about something happening next New Year’s Eve, I’m inclined to think we’ll get a NYE wedding (no doubt filled with drama). Perhaps a summer or autumn proposal, and a pretty forest green theme winter wedding. I’m picturing it now.
