Monday’s epsiode saw Carla and Lisa’s afternoon delight ruined by Betsy refusing to go back to college, and Lisa raiding Carla’s secret chocolate stash. But what did ‘Thick Shag Wednesday’ have in store? Let’s get in to it!

Betsy, still off college, was laying on the couch with Lisa, who seemed engrossed in work, and reminded the teen that she couldn’t sit watching films all day as she has a full time job. Lisa encouraged her to look at the college had sent her to do, and reassured her that her arm would get better with time.

We then saw Carla walking down the street on the phone to Lisa, who asked her girlfriend if she could come home to look after Betsy. After initially seeming annoyed at Lisa not wanting to leave her daughter alone for five minutes, Carla relented and said she’d come home. But not before we saw her take a sneaky look at number 6 Coronation Street. Could this really be the start of them thinking about moving house?

Back at the flat, Carla made pasta for lunch and handed Betsy a bowl before asking if she would like any pepper. She had been suspicious of Betsy manipulating her mum, and I wonder if this was a setup from Carla, to try and uncover the truth about her arm. Betsy grabbed the pepper grinder and proceeded to season her pasta with both hands, before realising Carla was on to her and jumping off the couch just as Lisa walked back in the door. Betsy stormed off to her room while Carla told Lisa her arm was fine! Carla noticed the pasta all over the carpet and thus the line ‘I’ve got olive oil all over my thick shag!’ was born. Two shags ruined in one week… wink wink 😉

Later, we saw Carla arrive at the pub for a fundraiser, and gave Julie (who is leaving the soap next week) a hug. She called Lisa, who didn’t answer, to ask if it was okay to come home, not wanting to arrive back in the middle of an argument. Any one else go feral at hearing her call Lisa ‘babe’?

Back at the flat we saw Lisa talk to Betsy about how she should have said something about her arm feeling better. Betsy told her that the feeling had only started to come back the day before, and she had enjoyed having Lisa dote on her for once. Betsy opened up about what she went through when they lost Becky, and Lisa suggested finding some therapy to help her daughter through her feelings.

As the episode drew to a close, Carla arrived home, much to the surprise of Lisa who thought she was going to be out all evening. As Betsy excused herself from the room, Lisa revealed that they had cleared the air and exclaimed it was a good thing that Betsy’s arm was improving. Whilst Carla agreed with that sentiment, she couldn’t let it go that Betsy had lied to them both. Lisa also told Carla that she doesn’t need to wait for permission to come back to her own home, clearly showing that Carla still doesn’t feel 100% part of the family unit. Hopefully as Betsy’s love for Carla shines through in the coming months (actress Sydney Martin’s words), this will start to change.

Betsy reappeared in an almost childlike state, further feeding into her feelings about needing her mum, and told Carla they were doing college work. Carla said she had things to do herself, and disappeared to the bedroom with a disappointed look on her face.

We know Friday’s tend to be good Swarla days, so let’s hope the next episode sees some sort of resolution for the current tension!
