After a very fluffy episode last Friday, we were back to Lisa throwing herself in to work again today. Carla had woken up alone, and was in the middle of leaving a voicemail for her girlfriend when Lisa arrived home.

Lisa revealed she’d been at the station by 6.30am, collecting files for a cold case she was getting stuck in to (Becky?), and when Carla asked if she was at home all day, Lisa suspected she was up to something. And she was right! After their chats about moving house, she’d arranged a viewing of No.6 Coronation Street with Alya, but Lisa seemed distracted, telling Carla that bargaining for a house would be her department.

We then saw Carla and Alya waiting outside No.6, with no sign of Lisa, and Carla unable to get hold of her. Lisa was in her own little world in the cafe, where Daniel started chatting to her about writing in a greasy spoon, and asked if she thought she had a novel in her. She picked up another one of Carla’s messages, and then young troublemaker, Brody, walked in, and purposely spilled coffee over the papers Daniel was marking.

Lisa warned Brody to cool off, and Daniel reassured her it was fine, but she clearly had a bee in her bonnet about the young lad. She threatened to arrest him for harassment, and both Dylan and Nina tried to help diffuse the situation.

As Carla walked in, frustrated that they’d wasted Alya’s time, Brody goaded Lisa by warning her she couldn’t go around arresting people for nothing, because it’s those coppers that get hurt. Lisa seemed to take that personally, grabbed Brody’s arm and pushed him down onto the table, grabbing her handcuffs.

At the station, Lisa checked Brody in with the custody officer, and he was asked to empty his pockets. They uncovered a tin of white pills, and Brody refused to disclose what they were. Lisa informed him she would be sending them away to be tested.

Once he was in his cell, Lisa headed to see how he was doing, and got abuse hurled at her through the cell door.

After a few moments, Brody seemed to calm down, before asking for his medication, but as the staff at the station were unaware of the nature of his pills, Lisa walked away. We then saw Brody have an epileptic seizure.

Kit arrived in the office to speak to Lisa, saying that Daniel’s version of events was that she’d overreacted to Brody in the cafe. Her plan was to release Brody soon, but their conversation was interrupted by fellow officer, Jess, informing them that he’d had a medical emergency in his cell.

In the cells, Brody claimed he told Lisa what his medication was for, but she denied knowing, being out of earshot when he whispered it through the cell door earlier on.

Jess took Brody off to get checked over by a doctor, leaving Kit and Lisa to talk. Kit checked whether what Brody said was true, and of course, Lisa confirmed she thought the pills were speed, hence her having them tested. With tensions high, Kit encouraged her to head home and sort her head out.

Back at the flat, Carla arrived home to find Lisa already there, and clearly upset as she wouldn’t make eye contact with her. Lisa broke down, and explained what had happened with Brody. It’s so nice to see Lisa’s walls coming down, she’s learning that she can be vulnerable with Carla, she doesn’t have to be strong all the time.

Carla offered her comfort, before reassuring her it wouldn’t end her with her losing her job. Lisa admitted she lost it in the cafe, and shouldn’t have arrested Brody in the first place. When asked whether what happened with Craig had brought everything that happened with Becky to the surface, Lisa was quick to say no. Before being honest and saying maybe. Lisa then received a text from her boss, summoning her to his office.

Costello informed Lisa he was getting the CCTV checked to see what actually happened with Brody, and his claim that he told Lisa what the medication was for. He seemed incredibly concerned about her mental state, and restricted her to desk duty for as long as it took for her to get her head straight. Despite saying she didn’t need it, he was sending her for counselling sessions, something I think she’s needed for a long time.

Costello also revealed that he and Lisa go back a long way (really want to know how long, what’s their story?), and that he didn’t want to lose her from his team. We know he was the one to inform Lisa that Becky had been killed, so he will know she threw herself back in to work as a coping mechanism. Perhaps he’s just looking out for her, realises she’s not coping and is stepping in before things get worse?

Next episode looks to be a little lighter thankfully, it’s drag night in The Rovers, and a night out for Carla and Lisa!
