Whatever tension was there between Carla and Lisa after Wednesday’s epsiodde was clearly non-existant this morning, as the first Swarla scene was a happy, domestic morning in the flat, with Lisa advising Carla about mobile phone thefts in the area. Lisa admitted that she was too soft with Betsy, so maybe there had been a discussion off-screen about the way she had been bending over backwards when her daughter lied about her injury from the shooting.

Carla even felt able to tease Lisa about the situation, remarking that Betsy must be so tired from faking the injury, which is why she was still asleep.

A wonderful soft moment to kick this episode off, and even a gay culture reference from Carla, as she likened her motherly instincts to that of Joan Crawford. Lisa’s surprised response about her swotting up on gay culture, and not telling Carla that she is a mother, makes me wonder if Lisa knows about her miscarriage yet, or if that’s something we’re going to witness on screen. Personally, I’d love to see Carla opening up to her girlfriend, and Betsy, about her trauma.

Later, we saw Carla introduce an estate agent to Jenny at The Rovers, and instruct them to show a prospective buyer round.

Back at the flat, Tracy paid a visit to demand Betsy pay up for the repairs needed to her van, as the insurance company had refused to pay out because she left her keys in the ignition. Betsy refused, and Lisa backed her daughter, even threatening to arrest Tracy if she didn’t leave. Go on D.S. Swain!

The episode finished up with Carla and Lisa dishing up a Chinese takeaway. Carla mentioned that maybe Betsy should pay some money towards the van repairs, but Lisa was adamant that she didn’t take kindly to Tracy coming into her home (HER home!) and calling her daughter names. Despite Carla having a different opinion, she let it drop.

These may only be short scenes, and could appear insignificant, but it seems as though Carla is starting to back Lisa’s parenting choices. Even if she may feel they’re wrong and have words with her in private, it’s important they show a united front for Betsy’s sake.
